A Contract with Interpreter: The Cheapest Bid

Should anything like that happen again, tell them you want a lawyer to appoint an interpreter, period!

I urge you to tell the NAD about that. So if something like that happens again in the future, courthouses, police, hospitals,
should be automatically fined or even sued.

Thank you for sharing your experience. From your story you sound a bit irritated with the interpreter and so I am trying to better understand your position.

You seem to have a problem with the interpreter having various interpreting jobs and making money from various sources. Do you feel that the interpreter did something wrong by signing a contract with the court? Was the interpreter somehow responsible for the fact that the court did not try to find another interpreter?

You also seem to have a problem with the fact that the interpreter showed up in court all sweaty and wearing a jogging outfit. Would you have preferred to sit in your jail cell for an extra hour or so while the interpreter showered and changed into something more appropriate? Of course, no one wants an interpreter showing up to an assignment all sweaty and dressed that way but the interpreter may have felt that "time" was the most important factor to consider since even as you said, you had been sitting in jail ALL day.

I am an interpreter and I am always interested in the deaf perspective on these types of issues.

Thank you again for sharing your story,

Michael Anthony
