Kalalau's Korner invites you to embark on your journey into Carl Schroeder's philosophy. Questioning and talking about ASL, short for American Sign Language, is my forte.

I think I named you as "ASL Whisper" ;)
That brings back memories.
We also whispered in ASL behind our desks to each other even when the Hearing teacher was teaching... and sometimes got caught. Most times we got away with it. (It was mostly for clarification purposes) When caught, we were chastised for talking.
The downside to this is that this gave the Hearing teachers the illusion that they were proficient at signing to the point that students actually understood them. These teachers actually thought SEE was the reason for students' successes (!) and often bemoaned the "good old days" before Bilingual-Bicultural education arrived.
I remember having to be blunt with one Hearing teacher and informing her that her SEE method was successful BECAUSE one student (who was bilingual) translated behind her back to other students. She did not believe me even when another Deaf teacher and I shared our own experiences of doing the same thing with our classmates!
