Ella's Vlog Revisited: POLITICS

A discussion vlog: Carl Schroeder discusses Ella's recent vlog, Our Real Political Task, by pointing out that Ella quotes Michael Foucault's quotation that is found in Harlan Lane's book, The Mask of Benevolence. Carl then discusses two terms, mask and benevolence, and elaborates how economics affects political procedures in our society.

Excellent vlog, Carl. Just want to add the expression to the discussion: "The best things in life are free."

Good insight, Carl! Yes, you're right.... economics and politics are very strongly tied together. Gotta cut those knots!

Very good Vlog, I wished that it was voice-over and captioned for everyone to be aware of what you just said in YouTube.

That's why I proposed for the federal law to recognize the existence of American Sign Language as part of minority language protection within the United States and its commonwealth few years ago. Nobody seems giving any hoots about this very necessary legislative proposal.

So we could have the real leverage to interject our political and economic and social power.

I am very surprised that the NAD did not take up this idea to make it happen.

Another proposal of mine from my past blog postings that we must unite together to oppose the re-authorization of the EDHI bill at all every opporunity.

The EDHI defintiely paved the widespread installation of CIs and steered the parents of newborn deaf baby to the audists, ex. audiologists and surgeons.

We must ask for the law to forbade all audiologists from making any sale pitchs inside their office about the CI device and surgery.

Many deaf people have been pressured heavily when they made their usual visit to the audiologist office for the copy of audiogram or regular hearing test.

Many deaf people already told their audiologists that they were not interested. Many deaf teenagers got emotionally insecure when audiologists urged them to consider for the CI surgery.

Carl,

Carl,

Excellent vlog. Jaw-dropping if all DeafRead readers read page 206
in Harlan Lane's "Mask of Benevolence". That is why I have recently written a letter to President Obama to stop Medicaid that uses American taxpayers' money for deaf children's CI. If all senators and representatives saw the costs, not only would they be sorely embarrassed but they would also object to paying for CI.

A very true fact that many people benefit from deaf people: hearing teachers, CI and hearing aids companies, audiologists, psychologists (to fix deaf people after years of failing education)...

There is not much money made with ASL. A very true sad fact. We have known it long time ago, yet it's not easy to break it as we don't have or have only very weak lobby. Most deaf people don't have good jobs to be able to contribute for a good cause.

Carl and Jean,

Bravo to Jean Boutcher! How come didn't you do your blog posting for letter campaign - more numbers via letters to make President Obama and his cabinet take the CI issue seriously.

That is definitely the aspect of government social engineering when come to the government funding of CI devices.

Everyone must understand that anyone being deaf is not health-related issue. Educational opporunities only make for the real success with physical deficit like not able to hear and speak.

Thanks again, Jean!
