A discussion vlog: Carl Schroeder discusses tragic for not only Deaf children, but also their families and friends. Something is terribly amiss or deficit in Deaf Education. The ability to use American Sign Language (ASL) is the heart of the matter for all Deaf children with and without cochlear implants. ASL enables us to learn and to think critically. Using ASL correlates with reading and writing. However, an army of educators of the Deaf are fundamentally wrong in their ideas about teaching the Deaf. Many Deaf children are not taught ASL critically to attain educational proficiency important to reading and writing. To deny Deaf children ASL is to promote deficit thinking.

Keep it up with shaking people's mind into reality! I have enjoyed visiting your VLOGs tremendously.
You may or may not remember me. :-)

Yes, Lilly, I do remember you! Thanks for participating in my blog/vlog. Carl
pefectly done! Like I said before, you're our true warrier. ;)
The curse of deaf culture, inventing audism when we already had a word for discrimination... No wonder the word audism was challenged as 'unsubstantuated' via verifiable FACT and reference.
Carl -
I fully agree with you about deficit thinking. Deaf children suffer when they are not allowed to use ASL.
I have grown up not using ASL and I looked back wishing I did.
After I learn ASL, my thinking had expanded 360 degrees.
I do make mistakes in using ASL, but I have come a long way and achieving more daily.
ASL is a way to enhance visual cues in communication.
Keep up the good work!
=)
MM,
Audism is not just about discrimination. It is about hating the fact that deafness is a biological condition that is irreversible; hating the fact that we are proud of our being Deaf; hating the fact that ASL (or BSL in your situation) is a signed language; hating the fact that we the Deaf are sight-oriented, not sound-oriented.
Carl
