Hi Carl!
My name is Courtney Setina. I am 21 years old and I am an ASL 4 student. I try to get in as much practice as I can so that hopefully, one day, I can become a better signer. I recently watched your video about captions being unbiased....I think that is a really good point. This issue had never really occured to me. I like how you brought up an example of the election going on right now with Hilary Clinton and Barack Obama. (At least that was the example I got from it! I'm still working on my receptive! =P) Anyways, I think your point is a good one. Recently, during class, we were discussing the Super Bowl and Bob's House, which is the commercial they had for Pepsi Enable with ASL in it. We came to the realizatioin that many of the other commercials arn't even captioned. My ASL teacher, who is deaf also, told us that captions are very expensive and that there is a controversy about maybe having the cost for captionings lowered...What do you think about this? I really enjoy your signing. You are very fast, so I try to keep us as best as I can. Sometimes I understand you, other times I don't. I just keep practicing and I hope that one day I will understand 100%. Message me back sometime!!
Courtney =)

Contact Jamie Berke of About.com or Berke Outspoken, blogs that have appeared often on Deafread.com. She compiled a list of captioning services grouped by state and in doing so, found that prices vary widely from very reasonable to very expensive. Competition has brought the price down a lot.
However, knowledge of these services have not reached the people in advertising, apparently.
