Yet Another Failed Gallaudet University PR Effort

Gallaudet University is fully accredited by MSCHE. No mistake!

I just made a phone call to Middle States Commission on Higher Education. It was a very nice conversation and I was reassured that the post by President I. King Jordan is inappropriate. It begins unnecessary rumors about MSCHE. She told me that my phone call was her second call, and she is fully prepared to inform us that MSCHE has no intention to discredit Gallaudet University. It is always good to check something like that.

From www.msche.org:

"The Middle States Commission on Higher Education is a voluntary, non-governmental, peer-based membership association dedicated to educational excellence and improvement through peer-evaluation and accreditation. As a recognized leader in promoting and ensuring quality assurance and improvement in higher education, the Commission defines, maintains, and promotes educational excellence and responds creatively to a diverse, dynamic, global higher education community that is continually evolving.

"The Commission supports its members in their quest for excellence and provides assurance to the general public that accredited member institutions meet its standards. The Commission achieves its purposes through assessment, peer evaluation, consultation, information gathering and sharing, cooperation, and appropriate educational activities. The Commission is committed to the principles of cooperation, flexibility, openness, and responsiveness to the needs of society and the higher education community."

While a graduate student at American University, I wrote a paper on university accreditation. All accreditation associations are voluntary. They do campus visitations and observations, but they do not come to campus to evaluate or criticize, which is highly inappropriate and unprofessional. They come to campus to learn about different things and make recommendations for enhancement of existing programs. If a university is in trouble, the accreditation association is there to help, not to disband.

President I. King Jordan’s post is yet another failed Gallaudet University PR effort to divide our GUFSSA community.

Carl, Can you just give up and start the healing process? JKF is an excellent interview with the Washington Post today. I justsent her a bouquet of flowers to show her some support.

"M" at Ridor's blog said she also called, and that they told her that not only was the post inappropriate that if it exists on official Gallaudet letterhead or is on Gallaudet's website, that a formal complaint could be filed against Jordan.

Carl, if you have an account to gallynet, please post your blog there too.

Huh? You send her...a bonquet of flower? You gotta be kidding! Do you job more carefully because media is full of bias and you would be surprise of how selective writers can be. Please read again and use critical thinking.

Anonymous 1, I beg to differ. This president is using very divisive tactics. He is lying to the media and to all of us. Fernandes is lying to everyone too. And this is acceptable? We should just move on? I don't think so. We can definitely agree to disagree, but Carl has valid reasons to continue.

Does anyone really think that "anonymous" above is a "real" person? PLEASE! "Bouquet of flowers" -- yeah, right! The words on the post above sound like words coming straight out of a Gallaudet Public Relations handbook called "what to write on protest supporter blogs."

You must really think we're stupid to post something as dumb as that! I guess you must be part of the laughable "silent majority" that JKF is talking about now, right?

Why be "silent"? Have the courage to put your name on a REAL letter -- like the many the FSSA Coalition has received from respected leaders of the deaf community all over the world. (www.gufssa.com)

Of course, you can't do that. Only a REAL person could, and not an "employee" of Gallaudet Public Relations.

Get a backbone!

A Deaf of Deaf (5th generation)? Are you in America? If so, where are you? Are you out of your mind? JK MUST RESIGN AND I KING JORDAN BECAME INFAMOUS FOR DEAF WORLD!

A Deaf of Deaf (5th generation)... Have you been to the protest here on the campus YET? IF so, then you are idiot and leave Gallaudet University. If you haven't, COME here and see this for yourself. UNLESS you are from a mainsteaming school or hearing school then you don't know the Deaf Culture and Gallaudet University. Don't get me wrong... Some Deaf people have 2, 3, 4, 5, and forth on generation of deaf but the newest deaf generation in that family may go to a mainstreaming school or deaf program in hearing school, not knowing Deaf Culture and Gallaudet. If that is true, then how can you dare to call yourself "D" instead of "d" Gessh.
